Rik 1 Repeats As Champion
Waregem, Belgium was the site of the 1957 World Championship Road Race. The race course presented 12 laps of a tough 23.8 km circuit.
The dominate Belgian National team, racing on home soil, worked hard to duplicate their success at the 1956 WCRR. A fiercely contested race saw the elites regroup and come into the finish area together. Defending champion Rik Van Steenbergen came around Frenchman Louison Bobet to capture the 1957 World Championship victory.
SPECIAL NOTE: Van Steenbergen was the first World Champion since George Ronsse in 1929 to gain the prestigious victory in consecutive years.
